Steal My Licks! - Bonus Jams

I don't consider myself a teacher but here are some simplified views of some of the jams I play in case you want to steal some of my licks.... all of which of course I stole from others in the first place. Play along and have fun!

  • Steal My Licks #52

By special request here's the Jam from the Eastman SC52 review which you may recognise as inspired by the classic Killing Floor by Albert King.

  • Steal My Licks #51

Here is the medley from this weeks review of the Andertons 60th Anniversary Telecaster which we are giving away in our 2nd Raffle!

Draw takes place at 8pm BST Sunday 30th March so there may still be time to get a ticket or two here: https://raffall.com/380216/enter-raffle-to-win-the-guitaristas...

  • Steal My Licks #50

Here's the jam on my '62 Les Paul Jr from the Boss IR-2 review... it's a lazy Em / A based arse loop with noodling in the key of Em. Jam along!!

  • Steal My Licks #49

Here's the improvised jam from the Shinichi Ubukata 355 review using various varitone positions including #6!

    It's Em / D / A / Em and I invite you to play along!

  • Steal My Licks #48

Here's the jam from the Squier Sonic Telecaster review a few weeks back. Its a simple and effective loop of Em - A and I'm improvising in the key of E major. Play along with me and have fun!!

  • Steal My Licks #47

Here's the play out jam from the Romford Holy Grail film on the 72' Les Paul Custom 🙌 It's just an Em / A loop and I'm using that CAGED G chord as my reference placing it (in my head) in and around the G major pentatonic positions up and down the board.

  • Steal My Licks #46

Here's the second fo the Fazley Coyote Jam's... not much to see here it's just a lazy E7 / A7 / B7 groove with Em Pentatonic improv but it's all you need!

  • Steal My Licks #45

Here's the first of the Fazley Coyote jams from last week, this time an entirely spontaneous and unimaginative loop of Em, D, C which actually turned out to be quite a nice groove!

  • Steal My Licks #44

Here's an extended version of the play-out jam from last weeks Coronet USA review. The inspiration for this was from the opening track on The Small Faces - Ogden's Nut Gone Flake... it's simple and beautiful so grab a guitar and and jam along! 😎🎸

  • Steal My Licks #43

Sorry no film this week as I'm in London working on an edit but here's a jam I've saved up for such an occasion... looking forward to getting back to the studio and getting stuck into some new stuff!

  • Steal My Licks #42

By special request here's the scrappy jam from the recent Telecaster Custom film. This very much incorporates the 'spray and pray' style of playing around some kind of 12 bar boogie groove in a hitherto unknown time signature!

  • Steal My Licks #41

Here's the vampy blues jam (in A) from the recent Maybach Albatroz 65 review... I'm just feeling my way as usual with it all based around A Major Pentatonic positions. My tip is to use those caged A shapes to find your way around the neck and just play the changes if you feel like it.

  • Steal My Licks #40

Another of the Harley Benton jams this is a spontaneous improv over a loop made of E / D / A / E. It's a nice groove and I suppose it has a kind of Southern Rock feel to it?... whatever it is I obviously had fun with this so please join me and jam along... you will find all the notes you need in ...

  • Steal My Licks #39

Here's one of my jams from this weeks Harley Benton review. This was a spur of the moment improvisation where I found myself playing that familiar Em / A7 loop which always reminds me of the Floyd's 'Breathe'... it's a really nice groove to find yourself in and can lead to some lovely Gilmoresque...

  • Steal My Licks #38

    This jam is based around the outro of one of my favourite Clash songs 'Complete Control'.... it's Bm / A / C#m / D / A / E - OK Let's go.... C-O-ENNNNN CONTROL!! 🔥

  • Steal My Licks #37

Here's one of the jams from the final part of the Strummer Amateurbuilt series. It's a lovely reggae groove loop of F#m - Bm.... when they kick down your front door how you gonna come??

  • Steal My Licks #36

Here's the jam from the Guild Polara Kim Thayil Signature review which you may recognise as inspired by the Soundgarden track 'Fell On Black Days' 🔥

  • Steal My Licks #35

By special request here's some jamming on the Danelectro Stock '59 from this weeks film. This was an extension of the 'Ramble On' groove continuing with a simple E and A loop and with improvisation in the key of A.

  • Steal My Licks #34

From the Nashville Stratocaster play out here's a great example of an entirely 'groove' based jam using just a single chord (Gm) loop. I often talk about not know what to do when playing alone and I think this is a great reminder that that when jamming you just need to find a groove!

  • Steal My Licks #33

Yet another vaguely 'Claptonesque' blues jam on the Les Paul... this one I think was loosely inspired by 'All Your Love' from the Bluesbreaker album and you can just about hear that riff make an appearance at the start. It's and easy peasy lazy noodle away to your hearts content in Am Pentatonic!

  • Steal My Licks #32

By special request here's the slow 'bluesy noodling thing' from this weeks Bluesbreaker film. It's just the simple I / IV / V progression in G and I've added a few loops of the chords only towards the end so you can jam along with me! 😁👍

  • Steal My Licks #31

More Zappa inspired riffing from this weeks SG film... another favourite loop of mine, this one starts with the recognisable riff from 'Muffin Man' and is a F#m / B / C#m chord progression with C#m Pentatonic as your starting box. Enjoy!

  • Steal My Licks #30

Here's the play out jam from the Stratosonic upgrade film... not for the first time recently I have used ZZ Tops 'Just Got Paid' as the riff and loop inspiration. This is a great variation on the standard blues rock progression with soloing firmly in the G maj (E min) Pentatonic boxes.

  • Steal My Licks #29

By special request here is the piece I used to compare Stratosonic upgrades. You may recognise this as inspired by (but a more frantic version of) Brown Sugar from ZZ Tops first album. I play it using powerchords - E5 / G5 / D5 and I keep it very simple here just trying to copy a few of Billy Gib...
